Worry or Peace. October 25
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
John Wesley said “I would no more worry than I would curse or swear”. We guard Ourselves against cursing, but are we as careful to guard ourselves against worry. I once read a book that said we consider worry a permissible sin. After all everyone does it, they say. And I’m afraid they may be right. But it is clear in scripture worry does not help us and it is not Gods will for our lives. There are numerous promises in the New Testament encouraging us not to worry. Listen to what our Lord himself said:
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:31-34
Seems the Lord tells us to take one day at a time. Start that day with prayer. Sometime during that prayer let God hear your request from your heart, over anything that’s troubling you, then go about our day fulfilling our responsibilities without worrying. This is certainly easier said than done. But it is His way and what a blessed way it is. You pray for me and I’ll pray for you to cast worry away and simply believe God.
