Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: Luke 5:4-9
We can learn many things from this passage of scripture. Such as,Jesus borrowing Peters boat and then paying him back with a great catch of fish. When you give something to God, remember-the bible says he will be a debtor to no man, He will bless in some way. But what really stands out to me today, imagine what was going on below the surface. Peter and his partners had fished all night and caught nothing. Sometime during our story, perhaps while Jesus was teaching or when he told Peter to launch out into the deep, who knows for sure? God was causing a great school of fish to come, yet it wasn’t known to anyone. Isn’t this amazing. Below the surface, God was working. This is often Gods way. Gods word declares that the kingdom of God is without observation or it is not often seen by the human eye or even detected by us. Peter had no idea, what was about to occur, he just simply obeyed the Lords word. This is what we should do also, just keep obeying God even when we can’t see or figure out what God is doing. He is working on our behalf. The bible says His spirit is like the wind, we can’t see It come or know where or what or to whom it may come next, but know this today : God is at work.
