Turned back? January 22
The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. Psalm 78:9
In the Old Testament the children of Israel, often fought battles with very few weapons. But when they were obediently following God it didn’t matter because God would miraculously come to their aid. Oh but when they were not obediently following God they lost their courage even when they had plenty of weapons. In our verse the tribe of Ephraim were armed with all they needed, yet they turned back out of fear. A couple verses above this explains that their spirits were not steadfast toward God. Today we have been given everything we need to live the victorious Christian life. These things are given to us by God. We have all the spiritual blessings available to us, thru Christ. God supplies all our physical needs and has promised to do so. Like Peter says in
2 Peter 1:3 we have all things we need for life and godliness. There is no reason for us to turn back now. Sure we face some battles along the way and some of them are fiery but we’re armed with all we need. Today by faith reach up to God and by His help we will quench all the fiery arrows the enemy uses to try and turn us away from God. Just think of what your fighting for: Eternity in heaven with God. Wow! The highest prize. And thru Christ you’ve been given the inside track just stay in your lane, set your spirit steadfast with him and by all means, let’s never turn back.
