SS lesson. May 17

Some quotes from the lesson “free in Christ”

(1) The Galatian Christians we’re free from bondage to the law. They would remain free only as they held to the truth that they were justified by faith.

(2) Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1

(3) Paul encouraged the Galatian Christians to maintain their freedom in Christ by standing firm in their conviction that they had been justified by faith, resisting the temptation to move into legalism.

(4) In Galatians 5:13-15 Paul drew an important distinction within his teaching on The judaizers: While Christians are by no means bound to observe the law in order to become righteous, their freedom from the law does not excuse sinful indulgences of the flesh.

True spiritual freedom is intended to be used constructively, and in a Godly manner. This had an important application for the Galatians: “Serve one another humbly in love”.

(5) Every person who walks with Jesus Christ must rely upon the direction of the Holy Spirit. Paul described an ongoing battle for the believers to overcome the desires of the flesh. By walking in the Spirit, they can live Godly lives.

(6) Note that these verses speak of those who continue living in the flesh as a matter of lifestyle. One does not lose salvation by committing a sin. There is forgiveness for the believers (1John 1:9).

But if ones life does not bear evidence of transformation from sin , clearly that person is not a citizen of Gods Kingdom.

(7) Without God we are under control of our sinful desires. But God has given us love as the basis of our actions toward him and toward others. All Christians have the Holy Spirit to enable them to take Godly, Loving actions. We are never alone in our desire to live a godly life; we can rely on the spirit to always be with us.

(8) Paul provided a specific way in which the Galatian Christians could apply the lessons of Spirit led living. In place of conceit, provocation, and envy, they could trust the Holy Spirit to produce the fruits of love, patience, and kindness within their lives. Their part of the process would be to keep in line with the Spirits direction.

(9) The only way to be justified - brought into right standing with God - is to abandon all human efforts at justification and trust in the sacrificial death and glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ.

(10) Are there areas of your life that you have not surrendered to the Spirits control? The Spirit will help you live a life that bears spiritual fruit and overcome the sins that hinder you in your walk with Christ.
