Saturday? April 11
And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. Mt 27:59-60
We remember and honor the lord a little specially on Friday, for his suffering and death upon the cross, for us. Sunday we will celebrate a little specially, his resurrection. Praise God, it was not possible for death to hold him. So what about Saturday? We know it was the Jewish sabbath day , a day of rest. So there wasn’t a lot of activity in or around Jerusalem. It’s a bit of a mystery of exactly what was going on with Jesus. His body layed in the tomb but what was going on in the spiritual realm? For the humans involved, it was a waiting day. We have hindsight in the story. We can say to Peter and the apostles, just wait one more day. We can say to Mary Magdalene and the women don’t you cry to much just wait until tomorrow. Then you will see!
Oh the waiting days are difficult as we wonder and even worry sometimes what will be. Well the Holy Spirit still has hindsight. And he says be not troubled only believe. Remember the two men on the road to Emmaus. ( Luke 24) They said we thought it was he who would redeem Israel. There hopes were momentarily dashed. They thought all hope of who Jesus was and what he was doing was over. Oh but it was just getting started. Saint of God just simply wait on God in our times we don’t understand, trust him, ask him and he will surely be with us. Sure enough he did redeem Israel and even the gentiles too. It was simply a greater redemption than they had in mind. Hallelujah! Remember resurrection day is coming.
