Prophet/Priest. January 29

Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. John 6:14

Throughout the years, Israel had much controversy with their prophets. Reason being, God sent the prophets with a message: Thus saith the Lord. Many of these prophets were bold characters, with a fiery message. God often sent them to arouse a guilty conscience in the Israelites, to bring them to repentance. So the Prophets were not often liked by the people. Now on the other hand Israel usually loved their priest. Reason being, the priest offered gifts and sacrifices to God on behalf of the people, to appease God and ease the guilty conscience of the Israelites. Not hard to see why they normally had a peaceful relationship with the priest and a contentious one with the prophets. The truth is they needed both the prophets and the priest. Someone to arouse them to Gods ways and someone to help them find forgiveness and peace with God. Today we need the same thing, a prophet with a message: This Is what the Lord says and a priest to help us before God. I’ve Got good news in Jesus Christ. He is both prophet and priest. He tells us in Gods word, this is the way to live, walk ye in it, and according to the Bible, He also is our priest who helps us before God.

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16

Thank God today, Jesus, both tells us the truth and gives us the help we need to fulfill it. Truly in Him is all we need to be pleasing to God. Let’s look to Him this day for truth and strength to live it out, before God.
