God a refuge. May 28
God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
Numerous times in the book of psalms, God is spoken of as a refuge. Which means he is a hiding place, a protection for his people. Through out the ages he has been known to be a refuge for those seeking his help and I’m thankful he is still a refuge for us today. If God offers a refuge it must mean there is a threat somewhere around us. Isn’t that certainly true. There are threats of sin, enemies, problems. Physical, emotional and spiritual dilemmas that seek to destroy us. Perhaps the most frightening of all is the threat of Gods own judgement against a sinful world. Thanks be to God, the word refuge speaks of Gods power to save us from any danger. Listen to Hebrews 6:18 : That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us. In the Old Testament refuge was found in high walls around the cities or caves or towers, things physical. In the New Testament God has promised a more sure refuge from all our enemies. This refuge is in Jesus Christ Gods own son. By faith in his life and sacrificial death we can be covered from all dangers including the wrath of God to be poured out in judgement upon a sinful world. When we believe and trust Christ as our savior we are shielded from all harm, forgiven all sin. Praise God . Today whatever may be happening, our refuge is still in God. He is still known as a refuge from the storm.
