Cleave unto the Lord. July 28
Who when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. Acts 11:23
Many people had believed in Jesus at Antioch and had turned to the Lord. The church at Jerusalem ( headquarters) heard about this revival and sent Joses. We know him better as Barnabas because the apostles had changed his name from Joses to Barnabas. Because he had been such an encouragement to believers at Jerusalem. That’s what Barnabas means: Son of encouragement. Barnabas had been a great helper and encouragement to believers. So they sent him to Antioch to help the believers there. His message to them was : Purpose in your hearts to cleave unto the Lord. That word cleave means to stay with, remain with a person, to persevere, or to continue with. Barnabas instruction was, now that you have believed and turned to the Lord, don’t let anyone or anything lure or separate you from him. Keep serving God, pray on, labor on, keep believing no matter who defects or what happens, keep trusting Jesus. doesn’t this sound like good advise for us in today’s world. With all that is happening, the simple advice is still: Cleave unto the Lord. Strangely it seems, many are defecting from the Lord at this critical moment. Do not let this be you. There is a great reward ahead for those who will abide in Christ our Lord.
