Burdened? April 18
Cast thy burden upon the lord, and he shall sustain thee, he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22
Its been said said that we as New Testament believers can’t claim a promise in the Old Testament unless we can find it reiterated in the New Testament. Well this one is not hard to find. Peter said in his first letter chapter 5 verse 7. Casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you. Peter also said in his second letter chapter 1 verse 3. According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who has called us unto glory and virtue. In our language Peter said we’ve been given everything we need, by God, to live a victorious Christian life. I don’t see anywhere, that God gives us a wheelbarrow to be able to push our heavy loads or a backpack to carry our heavy burdens. This is not the way he intends it to work. Yet this is the way we try so often to deal with life’s difficulties. I’ve heard people say I’ve got broad shoulders I can handle it. Well good luck on that. You will soon find my shoulders aren’t broad enough. I think I’d rather do it Gods way. You got a heavy weight, A pressing problem, God says bring it here, I’ll carry, you trust. Just simply trust me. There’s the answer and the problem in two words , trust me. If we do oh the lightness and joy we feel. But isn’t it hard to do just that and trust him. We should pray, put it on him ,as he says, then trust. I guarantee you his shoulders are broad enough. We do have responsibilities and I’m not saying to cease fulfilling yours. What I am saying is we can carry our responsibilities lightly, joyfully, knowing God has the heavy end. Let’s pray today: Oh Father I cast my care upon you, help me today to trust you to meet these needs and we ask this in the great name of Jesus Christ amen.
